Clean Your Glass to Enjoy Your Stash!!

Here is some advice for all my herb-smoking friends. Clean your glass often to enhance your nuggets and protect your health. You will truly enjoy all the fine flavors and aromas that you pay for. Your friends will complement you on your wisdom. This is also a good idea if you worry about having odor and residue on your pipes. We spend way too much for high quality ganjah only to miss the full taste of the unique varieties. We even spend $100’s on “fine glass art” through which to smoke our herb. Don’t you just hate it when you suck hard on the bowl and get a chunk of (often-burning) ash in your mouth. Over the last few years I have become much more careful about cleaning my glass pipes (enough gagging on flakes of ash!!)

SUPPLIES:

• Salt (26-oz blue container with metal pour spout)
• 70% rubbing alcohol (get Wintergreen or Citrus scent)
• Pipe cleaners and paper towels
• Sandwich size ziploc baggies (or larger)
• Sink that can get messy

PROCEDURES:

1. Remove loose matter by burning (smoking) any residue that remains (this is often good for very nice buzz!!)
2. Thoroughly rinse the glass pipe (piece) with hot water.
3. Place the glass piece inside a zippered baggie.
4. Add about a teaspoon of salt and couple ounces of alcohol (esp. wintergreen scent :>) to the baggie along with piece.
5. Seal the top of baggie and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds (see cautions below.)
6. Remove piece from baggie and push pipe cleaner(s) through all the holes.
7. Rinse glass piece in hot water (saving solution in the bag)
8. Put piece back in baggie and Repeat Steps 4-6 (dirty solution is OK.)
9. Rinse thoroughly and dry with pipe cleaners.
10. Enjoy the full pleasure and taste of your herb.

This thorough cleaning is recommended after every few uses. I also like to rinse my pipe in clear water after every use. Shake it dry and blow it clear. Pack it fresh.

CAUTIONS:

• Seal baggie carefully so solution doesn’t harm eyes, clothes or the environment.
• For larger bubbler I tend to use my hands instead of a baggie. Simply pour salt and alcohol into bong water reservoir. Plug pipe openings with fingers,
• Shake gently and do NOT bump the glass hard against anything hard.
• Avoid digging out the small glass hole and keep it relatively small.

NOTE: While working on my undergraduate in ecology at University of Illinois I did internships in toxicology and limnology labs. Then at UW-Madison did water quality analysis for carcinogens and other shit (back in early eighties – ouch I feel old!!) That type of boring work motivated me to pursue journalism and sociology.
