Please President Obama: Stop War on Marijuana

One of the first things FDR did when he became president in 1932 was to end the failed prohibition of alcohol. This single act freed up resources for needed public works programs and added lots of new tax revenue.  That  also dramatically improved public mood as promised by his 1932 campaign song “Happy Days are Here Again.”  Another benefit was the dramatic drop in crime  and fewer prisoners.   We will see these and other major benefits once the wasteful weed war ends.

President Obama has the same chance to restore a sense of freedom and happiness in our country.  One easy thing to do is end the unethical and ineffective war on medical marijuana.  This will also improve how the rest of the world views the United States.  Read all about what we all can do to persuade and pressure our new president to “Do the Right Thing” for millions of medical patients and recreational users across the country and around the world.  The US is the only country standing in the way of global ganjah legalization.

States Scramble as Marijuana Becomes Biggest Cash Crop

One in four states allow the use of medical marijuana for patients with a doctor’s approval.  All the federal government needs to do is to call off the unethical and ineffective war against these states.  I have written that Obama will end the failed federal war on marijuana One stroke of the presidential pen will legalize it; and the pent-up demand will be overwhelming. Recent reports show that marijuana has been the largest US cash crop for years.  This growth is concentrated in several regions (west coast and former tobacco states.)  States that now lead production will have an early advantage as the war ends.  Given how much money is tied up in pot production and distribution, the stakes are truly high.  Think of how much public benefit will occur if we had the tax revenues from legal production and consumption of pot.  The leading conservative voice, William F. Buckley strongly supported legalization of marijuana. Real jobs, wealth and happiness will be created in the process!!

Federal pot prohibition programs will end – at least if Barack Obama becomes our president. As I wrote here on February 3, 2008 - Obama Should be willing to legalize marijuana.  I recently received a response from the Obama campaign that basically supports my early prediction. Start asking him questions in public.  After that I present some shocking revelations about the extent to which Old McCain is beholden to the booze industry (particularly BUSH beer).  Finally, is analysis of the recent House Bill that would make even recreational use no longer a crime.

True Conservatives Want Marijuana Legalized!!

True conservatives have always opposed government involvement in the private lives of adult citizens. As I have written elsewhere in this Newspaper there are many reasons for legalizing marijuana and no good ones for keeping up this wasteful and unethical war. The leading voice for traditional (“Goldwater-style”) conservatives was William F. Buckley who died recently. He also has laid out a strong and persuasive case for ending the war on drugs — from a unique set of legal, ethical and political perspectives. Obama Should Be Willing to Legalize Marijuana

The federal government continues to wage an unethical war against medical marijuana. Despite the fact that overwhelming majorities of people disagree with this policy, no one seems willing to stand up for our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Fortunately, we now have a chance to reverse the losing policies of the past 70 years. Candidates who campaign for legalization will be in-line with the views of over three-quarters of American voters.

So be sure and read that article after you read this one.  We now need to put some firm and friendly pressure on Barack to follow through on his policy to end the Federal War on Medical Marijuana. Each state will then have the right to legalize, regulate, and tax as they see fit.  Wow – seems like a win for all!!

Now that Obama has become president we need to hold him to his promise that he will eliminate government programs that do not work.  The war on marijuana is clearly an economic and ethical failure.  Read my latest plea and start contacting our new leaders!!
